Review of Contracts for a K-pop Band Entering into Japanese Market

Our firm reviewed a series of contracts between a K-pop band and a local agency in Japan, including the management contract, recording contract, joint production agreement, and music publishing agreement, for the purpose of the band’s expansion into the Japanese market. Our main focus for the review was ensuring the intellectual property rights of the band and its domestic agency regarding their domestic activities and the protection of the band’s deliverables thereof while simultaneously limiting the local agency’s rights, which were excessively broad. Further, we have reviewed the contracts to ensure clarity regarding the rights and obligations of both parties in case of contract termination, cancellation, or expiration.
